With the recent completion of championship qualifying rounds for Men and Women at the Redcliffe Golf Club, the finals were held Sunday 12th June. Despite the cool and blustery conditions at the beautiful bayside course in Queensland, the 36 hole match play final was full of quality golf.

In the Men’s final, Goodstart Ambassador Doug Klein, as defending champion, lined up against the seasoned and twice winner of this event, Steve Johnson. This match was one of the tightest finals seen for many year’s at Redcliffe with both players recording sub par rounds of 69 each for the morning round and setting the scene for a thrilling afternoon final round. With neither yielding and the match going shot for shot, hole for hole, both players recorded scores of 68 each to remain tied and forcing the match to extra holes in a play off.

The playoff was sensational!!! Facing a 342 meter par 4 and using driver, Doug boldly drove the green to finish 7-8 meters from the pin, while Steve played his trusty 3 wood for position. Sadly, Steve’s approach shot clipped trees en route resulting in a bogey with Doug successfully defending his title to record back to back Men’s Open Club Championship victories.

Notwithstanding the pressure packed 37 hole final, both played the game in wonderful spirit as it was meant to be and in doing so demonstrated their standing as ambassador’s for the game.

The LADIES final saw Goodstart Ambassador Kirsty Hodgkins as the 2014 winner line up against talented dual winner, Claire Jackson. Again, despite the cool and blustery conditions, Kirsty was impeccable from tee to green and finished with her second Women’s Open Club Championship.

Todate, Kirsty holds an impressive resume of titles, placings and new course records to her name. Today’s win is another, in what we know will be an incredible amateur career.

As wonderful Ambassadors and role models, we congratulate you both for a great day of golf.
